Box Score EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team skated to its second shutout of the season with a 2-0 win in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) conference action over Lake Forest College (Il) tonight at Hobbs Ice Center.
The Blugolds move to 4-2-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the NCHA and the Foresters drop to 1-6-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the NCHA. Last season the Blugolds tied the Foresters 3-3. Tonight's win is the second time Eau Claire has beat Lake Forest in its last eight meetings.
This is the 21st time in school history that the men's hockey team has shutout an opponent. The Blugolds shutout St. John's University (MN) earlier this season with a 1-0 victory. The 2006-07 squad shutout Concordia College (MN) 9-0 and in 2003 the Blugolds shutout Milwaukee School of Engineering 9-0.
After a scoreless first period Andrew Johnson (Jr.- Andover, MN/Anoka) got the Blugolds on the board 4:37 in the second period. Jesse Vesel (Jr.- Hibbing, MN) and Tyler Trudell (So.- Waukesha, WI/South) had the assists on Johnson's team-leading fourth goal of the season.
At the 10:37 mark Bryan Plaszcz (So.- Apple Valley, MN) scored his third goal of the season on a power play. Trudell had the assist on the goal, his fourth of the season.
Tyler Brigl (So.- Eagan, MN) was in the net for the Blugolds, he earned his second shutout of the season with 16 saves. Brigl moves to 4-2-0 on the season for Eau Claire. Scott Campbell was in the net for Lake Forest; he allowed two goals and had 45 saves on the night.
Eau Claire will travel to Green Bay tomorrow to take on St. Norbert College at the Resch Center for a conference game. The puck is set to drop at 5:05 p.m. The Gamblers will take on the Sioux Falls Stampede following the Blugolds conference game against the Green Knights.
