Box Score EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team defeated Loras College (Iowa), with a 3-0 victory over the Duhawks at the Bollinger Fields today.
The Blugolds are now 11-0-1 on the season after the non-conference win and have recorded their ninth shutout of the season. The Duhawks drop to 7-6 on the season after today's loss. The Blugolds are now 3-1 all-time against Loras, winning the last three times they have met.
The Blugolds' first strike today came at almost the midway point of the first period. Amy Smith (Jr.-Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson) scored her seventh goal of the season, with Liz Kooistra (Jr.-Lakeville, Minn.) picking up the assist. The second goal of the day came 10 minutes into the second period, on a Kooistra goal and Amy Smith assist. The goal was Kooistra's fifth of the season. The duo would then combine for the team's final goal of the game about six minutes later, with Amy Smith scoring and Kooistra picking up the assist.
The Blugolds' defense had another solid game, allowing no shots in the first period and only three in the second. Blugold goalies Liz Weirick (Sr.-Kenosha, Wis./Tremper) and Allie Rivard (Jr.-Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata), who split time in goal, faced no shots on goal from the Duhawks today.
Eau Claire, on the other hand, had a total of 16 shots, with half being on goal. Nine different players combined for the 16 shots, with sisters Amy and Allison Smith (Jr.-Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson) leading the Blugolds with three apiece.
The Blugolds will be back in action this Wednesday when they take on first-ranked Wheaton College (Ill.) at 4 p.m. Eau Claire will look to stay unbeaten, though they have yet to defeat Wheaton College in seven meetings and have lost to them to end their season in the playoffs the last two years.
