Box Score EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team defeated UW-Platteville by a score of 3-0 today in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Quarterfinal action at the Bollinger Fields in Eau Claire.
The Blugolds, 7-0-1 in the WIAC and 16-1-2 overall, have not lost in 25 straight conference games. Including playoff games against conference opponents, the Blugolds have not lost in 31 consecutive games.
Eau Claire jumped on the board early scoring 18 seconds into the first half. Sam Krueger (So.- Elkhorn, WI) scored her fifth goal of the season on a header into the upper left corner of the net with the assist going to Liz Kooistra (Jr.- Lakeville, MN). Krueger's goal, 18 seconds into the game, ranks 18th in NCAA Division III women's soccer for fastest goal scored in a game.
About 21 minutes later the Blugolds would increase its lead to 2-0 on a goal by Haelee Maurer (Fr.- Appleton, WI/West). This is Maurer's sixth goal of the season with the assist going to Abby Ofstedahl (Sr.- Apple Valley, MN/Eastview). The Blugolds went into half-time up 2-0.
Liz Weirick (Sr.- Kenosha, WI/Tremper) was in the net for the Blugolds in the first half. Weirick had one save on two shots. The Blugolds had 15 shots in the first half and four corner kicks to the Pointers zero.
Krueger would add an insurance goal for Eau Claire 88:09 into the second half. This was Krueger's second goal of the game and sixth of the season. Allison Smith (Jr.- Bloomington, MN/Thomas Jefferson) had the assist, Smith's corner kick to the front of the net allowed Krueger a header for the goal.
Allie Rivard (Jr. Plymouth, MN/Wayzata) was in the net for the Blugolds in the second half. Rivard had one save on one shot. The Blugolds had 14 shots in the second half and six corner kicks to the Pioneers one.
Eau Claire will host the WIAC semifinals and finals on Nov. 2 & 3. The first seed Blugolds will take on fourth seed UW-La Crosse on Friday, Nov. 2 at the Bollinger Fields in Eau Claire. The game is set to start at 11 a.m. Immediately following the first game will be the second match of quarterfinal action between second seed UW-Stevens Point and third seed UW-Whitewater
Tickets for Friday's semifinal action can be purchased at the field; the cost will be $6 for adults, $4 for seniors and $3 for youths, and free for all WIAC students with ID.
