Soccer Suffers First Loss Of The Season

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season today at the hands of Wheaton College (IL) at the Bollinger Fields.

Eau Claire moved to 11-1-1 overall after a loss to Wheaton College by a score of 2-1. Eau Claire had a 4-0-1 record at home and had only allowed five goals to their opponents going into today. Eau Claire is 0-8-0 all time against Wheaton.

Wheaton moves to 15-0-0 and won their 33rd consecutive game today. Wheaton ranked first nationally in Division III women's soccer (NSCAA/adidas).

Taryne Lee scored the first goal of the match at 12:19 for Wheaton making the score 1-0 at half time. Both the Blugolds and the Thunder had three shots on goal. Liz Weirick (Sr.- Kenosha, WI/Tremper) allowed the first goal of the match and had one save. Allie Rivard (Jr.- Plymouth, MN/Wayzata) entered the game at the 12:50 mark and had one save in the first half.

Gina Christenbury (Fr.-Pleasant Prairie, WI/Kenosha Tremper) scored nine minutes into the second half at the 54:00 mark. Christenbury scored her fourth goal of the season with the assist going to Liz Kooistra (Jr.- Lakeville, MN).

Christenbury's goal was the first scored on Wheaton in 445:04 minutes of play.

Lee would score her second goal of the game for Wheaton with 18 seconds remaining on the clock. The eventual game-winning goal came on a Thunder corner kick.

Rivard had four saves for the Blugolds who totaled 12 shots, five of which were on goal. The Blugolds had one corner kick to the Thunders eight. The Thunder had 13 shots, five of which were on goal.

Eau Claire will travel to UW-Oshkosh on Saturday for one of their four remaining conference games. Eau Claire is 4-0-0 in the WIAC and has 18 consecutive wins over WIAC opponents.

The Blugolds will take on the Titans at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday in Oshkosh.
