Box Score

EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire soccer team notched another shutout and its 10th straight win in its march through the season by defeating conference foe UW-Stevens Point 3-0 today in Bollinger Fields.

Eau Claire, ranked fifth nationally in the NSCAA/Adidas poll and 15th in the D3Kicks.com poll, is now 10-0-0 and 4-0-0 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) contests and sits on top in the conference. The Pointers drop to 5-2-2 and 1-1-1.

The team has not lost at home in 15 contests dating back to October 16th of 2004 when, ironically, the team lost to Stevens Point 3-0. It is also the most wins a team has had to start a season since 12 in 1998.

It is the eighth shutout of the season, all of which have been Blugold wins. The most shutouts was 14 last year while the most shutout wins was 1998's total of 12. Also, the team has only allowed two goals all year, making for just a pair of scores in 919:18.

The stifling Blugold defense allowed only four Pointer shots on goal today, with Liz Weirick (Jr.-Kenosha/Tremper) and Allie Rivard (So.-Plymouth, MN/Wayzata) collecting two saves apiece. The fouls went 12 for Eau Claire and two less for Stevens Point. That is the second most Eau Claire has had all season.

The only scoring in the first half came from Liz Kooistra (So.-Lakeville, MN) in the 24th minute. Jessica Millard (So.-Madison/La Follette) assisted on the play.

The game remained 1-0 until the 60th minute when Maria Iaizzo (Sr.-White Bear Lake, MN) found net from long range. It is Iaizzo's team leading eighth goal and 20th point. Abby Ofstedahl (Jr.-Apple Valley, MN/Eastview) set up the Iaizzo blast. About three minutes later an Emily Waldorf (Fr.-Hartford/Kettle Moraine Lutheran) goal made for the final score with passes coming from Becky Westbrock (Sr.-Oakdale, MN/North St. Paul) and Emily Meisinger (Sr.-Green Bay/Notre Dame Academy). It is Westbrock's first assist of the season.

This is the first time the Blugolds have defeated Stevens Point since 1991. The all-time record now stands at 4-24-4 in favor of the Pointers.

The Blugolds take the field again tomorrow when they face St. Olaf at 2:00 p.m.
