KENOSHA - The only team to finish ahead of the UW-Eau Claire women's cross country team today at the 17-team UW-Parkside Midwest Collegiate Championship was the home team itself in its first meet of the year.
Parkside had the first, third, fifth, and eighth runner while collecting 45 points. Naomi Fulton was the winner and compiled an 18:16 time. The Blugolds had 92 points, four ahead of Northern Michigan University. Hillsdale College put together 101 while Michigan Tech's 112 rounded out the top five.
Last year the team finished fourth or higher in every meet but nationals.
Molly Warner (Jr.-Mosinee) built upon last year's impressive season where she ran in nationals as she took fourth today on an 18:44 time. Christina Locke (Jr.-Racine/Horlick) ran 19:39 for 13th. Cassie Haak (Sr.-Shoreview, MN/Mounds View) also placed in the top 20 with a 17th place finish in 19:52. Freshman Hanna Humbach (Madison) supported her team in her first Blugold race with a 19th place 19:56 run. Bridget Bocher (Jr.-Watertown) was the fifth Eau Claire runner and 39th overall as she clocked in at 20:27.
Next Saturday the team heads the University of Minnesota Invite.
