Men's Golf Fourth After First Day Of Wartburg Invite

WAVERLY, IA - The fifth-ranked UW-Eau Claire men's golf team finds itself in fourth place out of 19 teams after the first day of the two-day Wartburg Invitational held at Centennial Oaks Golf Course today.

The Blugolds finished the first round with a score of 321. Millikin University is currently in first place with a score 309. Right behind them in second is Central College with a score of 312 and in third is Buena Vista University at 318.

The Blugolds individually have three players that are in the top 20 after the first round. Leading the way is Peter Wendt (So.-Lake Mills, WI), who shot a 77, which puts him in a tie for sixth place. Mike Greer (Jr.-Vadnais Heights, MN/White Bear Lake) is tied for ninth after shooting a 79. Tied for 16th is Grant Lissick (Sr.-Vadnais Heights, MN/White Bear Lake), who shot an 80.

The Blugolds' Derek Pirkl (Sr.-Stoughton, WI) and Ryan Brockhaus (Jr.-Mayville, WI) finished just outside the top 20 as they are tied for 24th after both shot an 81.

The Blugolds will complete the invite tomorrow with final round action beginning at 8 a.m. at Waverly Municipal Golf and Country Club.
