SPENCER, IA - The sixth-ranked UW-Eau Claire men's golf team is in a tie for third out of 20 teams, just two strokes behind leader Nebraska Wesleyan, at the Buena Vista Spring Invitational after posting a first round score of 297.
First round leader Nebraska Wesleyan shot a score of 295 to put itself in front. In second place is Gustavus Adolphus with a score of 296. Tied for third with the Blugolds with a score of 297 is Wartburg College. Central College rounds out the top five with a score of 298.
Leading the way for the Blugolds is Grant Lissick (Sr.-Vadnais Heights, MN/White Bear Lake), who shot a first round 70 (-2), which puts him second overall two shots behind the leader.
Tied for ninth is Ryan Brockhaus (Jr.-Mayville, WI) who shot a first round 74 (+2). Two Blugolds are tied for 24th Brian Giese (Jr.-Prairie du Chien, WI) and Tyler Leis (Jr.-Reedsburg, WI) after they both shot a 76 (+4).
Two more Blugolds are currently in the top 50, Cody Peterson (Fr.-Chippewa Falls, WI/Chi-Hi), who is tied for 36th after he posted a 77 (+5) and Mike Greer (Jr.-Vadnais Heights, MN/White Bear Lake), who shot a 78 (+6), which puts him in a tie for 47th.
The Blugolds finished ninth out of 18 teams last year at the Buena Vista Invite.
Final round action will begin tomorrow at 9 a.m. at Lake Creek Country Club.
