Women's Basketball Takes Care Of UW-Superior

EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team cruised to its 38th-straight victory over UW-Superior tonight, winning by a score of 64-43.

With the victory the Blugolds improve to 12-12 overall and 7-8 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) action. The loss drops the Yellowjackets to 4-19 overall and winless in the conference at 0-15.

In a turnover-filled game, the Yellowjackets scored the opening points, but that would be their only lead. The Blugolds would then go on a 12-0 run capped off by a Heidi Arciszewski (Fr.-Thorp, WI) 3-pointer. The Blugolds would lead by as much as 12 (17-5) with 11:14 to go in the half.

The Yellowjackets would get it down to seven, but the Blugolds would go into the half with a 23-14 lead. The Blugolds shot just 32% in the half, while the Yellowjackets shot only 29%.

Both teams combined for 32 turnovers in the first half, with Superior having the majority with 20.

The Blugolds then started the second half with an 8-0 run to extend its lead to 31-14. The Yellowjackets would then go on a 10-0 run to cut the Blugold lead down to seven. However, that would be as close as Superior would get as the Blugolds would go on a 12-0 run to go up 19 with 9:59 to play. The Blugolds would then cruise to victory by a score of 64-43.

Both teams ended up with 58 combined turnovers. The Yellowjackets had 38 of them. The Blugolds had 32 points off of those turnovers, compared to just 14 for Superior. UWEC had 20 steals in the game.

Heidi Arciszewski led all scorers with 17 points. Arciszewski had six rebounds and six assists to go along with her 17 points. Brittanni Hakanson (Fr.-Wheeler, WI/Boyceville) was the only other Blugold in double-figures with 10 points. Liz Van Drasek (Sr.-Albertville, MN/St. Michael-Albertville) led the team in rebounds with eight.

On Saturday, the Blugolds will host UW-Whitewater in the team's regular season finale. The action is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. in Zorn Arena.
