EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team posted its 10th shutout of the season with a 2-0 decision over Augsburg College on the Bollinger Fields Sunday afternoon.

The non-conference win was the Blugolds' 13th triumph in 14 starts this year while Augsburg slipped to 7-3-2 for the season. The Blugolds have never lost a match to Augsburg and now own a 7-0-2 all-time record against the Auggies. The Blugolds have blanked Augsburg two years in a row and outscored the Minnesota Intercollegaite Athletic Conference opponent by a 23-3 margin in nine games.

The Blugolds, ranked No. 8 in this week's NSCAA national coach's poll and No. 18 in the d3kicks.com national poll, were playing without defenders Allison Smith (So.-Bloomington/Jefferson) and Abby Ofstedahl (Jr.-Apple Valley, MN/Eastview), both of whom were out with injuries.

The Augsburg defense had posted shutouts in eight of its previous 11 games but could not contain the Blugolds Sunday. Amy Smith (So.-Bloomington, MN/Jefferson) scored the first Blugold goal just 7:19 into the contest when the goalkeeper lost the ball just in front of the net and she punched it in. Smith then assisted on the second goal with a kick in front of the net that senior Emily Meisinger (Green Bay/Notre Dame Academy) headed past Augsburg goalie Maggie DeGroot at the 58:37 mark.

The Blugolds held a 15-7 margin in shots. Junior Liz Weirick (Kenosha/Tremper) and Allie Rivard (Plymouth, MN/Wayzata) split time in goal for the Blugolds while DeGroot went the distance for Augsburg.

Augsburg had been shut out only two times previously this year and had outscored its opponents by a 20-4 margin in 11 prior outings.

The Blugolds now hit the road for five consecutive contests beginning with a conference match at UW-Platteville next Saturday. They will not return home until Oct. 28 when they host the College of St. Scholastica.
