WEST SALEM – The UW-Eau Claire women's cross country team posted its best team finish in nine years as it finished second at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships hosted by UW-La Crosse here today at the Maple Grove Country Club.
The second place finish by the Blugolds was the best team finish at the WIAC Championships since a second place finish in 1997 where they scored 88 points. Last year the Blugolds finished fourth scoring 110 points and trailed first place UW-La Crosse by 72 points. Today the Blugolds were just five points out of tying the Eagles for first place.
Molly Warner (Jr.-Mosinee) led three Blugold top 10 finishers placing fifth overall in a time of 22:18. Christine Locke (Sr.-Racine/Horlick) finished seventh and Beth Lutz (So.-Eau Claire/Memorial) placed eighth with times of 22:37 and 22:41 respectively. Cassie Haak (Sr.-Shoreview, MN/Mounds View) just missed a top 10 finish placing 11th in 22:55 and Ellie Lutz (So.-Eau Claire/Memorial) rounded out the Blugold top five finishing 21st in a time of 23:28.
Up next the Blugolds will compete at the NCAA Regional hosted by Augustana (IL) College on Saturday, November 11 starting at 12:00 P.M.
