Box Score LA CROSSE - The UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team outscored UW-La Crosse 23-7 the final 12 minutes of the game to extend its winning streak to four and defeat the 23rd-ranked Eagles today 66-50.
The victory gets the Blugolds back to .500 overall with a 9-9 record and are now 4-5 in conference action. The loss drops the Eagles to 14-4 overall and 5-4 in conference.
The Blugolds scored the first six points of the ballgame to go up 6-0 early. The Eagles would get back in it tying the game up at 8-8 with 14:00 to go in the first half. From that point on in the first half neither team had a lead of more than five. There were five ties in the first half alone.
With the score tied at 27-27 with two minutes left in the half, the Blugolds would score the final four points of the first half to go up 31-27 at the half. Both teams shot just 35% in the first half however the Blugolds shot and made five more free throws in half.
The game would continue to be close for the first eight minutes of the second half. The Eagles would even the game up for the eighth time at 43-43 with 12:19 remaining in the game. The Blugolds would then take control the rest of the way, as UWEC would go on a 14-2 run to go up 57-45 with 4:30 remaining.
The Eagles would make only 2 field goals the final 12 minutes of the game as the Blugolds would outscore La Crosse 23-7 during that span to go on to win 66-50.
The Blugolds shot 58% in the second half and outscored the Eagles in the paint 30-14 in the game.
Three different Blugolds scored in double-figures. Leading the way was Liz Van Drasek (Sr.-Albertville, MN/St. Michael-Albertville) who had 13 points. Heidi Arciszewski (Fr.-Thorp, WI) and Rachel Becker (Sr.-Gilmanton, WI) had 12 points apiece for the Blugolds. Becker also just missed a triple-double as she had another good all-around game with 10 assists and seven rebounds to go along with her 12 points.
Up next the Blugolds will return home to host I-94 rival UW-Stout on Wednesday night. The tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Zorn Arena.
