Lone Goal Gives Soccer Victory Over Oshkosh

OSHKOSH - The UW-Eau Claire soccer team needed only one goal today as they defeated UW-Oshkosh 1-0 to improve to 3-0 in the WIAC.

Once again the Blugolds out shot their opponents, this time by a margin of 16-10. The Blugolds had control of most of the first half out shooting the Titans 10-2. The second half was more even as the Titans had a slight advantage in shots.

It wasn't until the 71st minute that the lone goal of the game was scored when the Blugolds' Marcia Foltz (Sr.-Madison/Memorial) lofted one over the Titan's goalie to give the Blugolds the lead for good. It was her third goal of the season.

The steady defense of play for the Blugolds continued as they pitched their seventh shut out of the season. Goalie Allie Rivard (Fr.-Wayzata, MN) was busy in the second half as she stopped five Titan shots.

With the win the Blugolds improve to a record of 7-1-2 overall and remain unbeaten in the conference at 3-0. The loss gives the Titans a 5-4-1 record overall and a conference record of 3-1-1. The win for the Blugolds also snaps a two-game losing streak to the Titans.

Up next for the Blugolds is a home conference match Tuesday against UW-River Falls. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
