EAU CLAIRE - The Eau Claire and the UWEC-Gold teams defended their home turf as the Eau Claire team finished first and the Gold team finished second out of 16 teams here at the Frank Wigglesworth Blugold Collegiate Invitational.
Eau Claire hit the best score of the day with 293 to move from third to first and finished with 588 strokes. The Gold crew was three behind them with their 591 total score. In third was Luther College with 602. Gustavus Adolphus finished fourth with 603 while Wartburg College rounds out the top five while hitting 604.
The leader of the Eau Claire squad was Grant Lissick (Sr.-Vadnais Heights, MN/White Bear Lake) who hit 143 and ranked third. Cody Peterson (Fr.-Chippewa Falls/Chi-Hi) was right behind him with 146 strokes and a tie for fourth. Derek Pirkl (Sr.-Stoughton) tied for seventh as he hit 148, while Mike Greer (Jr.-Vadnais Heights, MN/White Bear Lake) earned a tie for 14th with his 151 day.
The runner-up for the entire meet was Ryan Brockhaus (Jr.-Mayville), who scored 140 for the Gold team. The two under par performance was just one stroke behind the top finisher. Both Derek Bauer (So.-Eagan, MN/Indian Hills CC, IA) and Cole Stark (Jr.-Eau Claire/Memorial) hit 148 and tied for seventh place. Peter Wendt (So.-Lake Mills) finished with 155 and in a tie for 28th.
Next up for Eau Claire is the Twin Cities Classic which runs from October 8th to the 11th.
