Men's Golf Squads Near Top On First Day Of Home Tourney

EAU CLAIRE - Today at the Eau Claire Golf and Country Club the Eau Claire squads finished the first day of the two-day Frank Wigglesworth Blugold Collegiate in the first and third slot, with the UWEC-Gold team on top and the regular Eau Claire crew in third.

The Gold team hit 288 today, while Eau Claire ended the day with 295. Between them is Gustavus Adolphus with 294. In fourth is Wartburg College at 300, while Luther College and Lawrence University are tied for fifth with 302. There are 16 teams in the competition.

Ryan Brockhaus (Jr.-Mayville) was the top finisher, with a five under par score of 66. His back nine was the top score for all golfers. Also for the Gold team was Cole Stark (Jr.-Eau Claire/Memorial) with 73 and an eighth place day, Derek Bauer (So.-Eagan, MN/Indian Hills CC, IA) in a tie for 11th with his 74, and Peter Wendt (So.-Lake Mills), who ended with 75 strokes and an 18th place tie.

The Eau Claire squad's top finisher was Grant Lissick (Sr.-Vadnais Heights, MN/White Bear Lake), who finished just behind Brockhurst with 68 and a tie for second. He had the best front nine of all competitors. Cody Peterson (Fr.-Chippewa Falls/Chi-Hi) collected points with his 11th place finish and totaled a 74, as did Derek Pirkl (Sr.-Stoughton) who tied Peterson in the 11 spot. Mike Greer (Jr.-Vadnais Heights, MN/White Bear Lake) finished in a tie for 37th place and hit a 79 on the day.

Both squads look to end the tournament tomorrow with an all-Eau Claire top two.
