Defense stellar Again In Soccer Victory

EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire soccer team extended its shutout streak by defeating Illinois Wesleyan 1-0 today at the Bollinger Fields.

The Blugolds have not allowed a goal now for 290 consecutive minutes and have not allowed a goal yet this season. The Blugolds only had two shots on goal, but it was enough for the victory.

Marcia Foltz The only goal scored in the match was by Marcia Foltz (Sr.-Madison, WI/Memorial), who scored on a penalty kick late in the first half.

Goalie Liz Weirick (So.-Kenosha, WI/Tremper) had four saves, while backup goalie Allie Rivard (Fr.-Wayzata, MN) added three saves for the Blugolds.

The Titans had a couple of scoring chances in the second half, but were unable to capitalize. With the win the Blugolds are now 2-0-1 on the season. The Titans with the lose fall to 3-2. This was the first ever match up between the two teams.

The Blugolds next match will be a conference match up Friday, September 16 against UW-Platteville. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. at the Bollinger Fields.
