Men's Hockey Beaten By NCHA Opponent St. Scholastica

Box Score

EAU CLAIRE - St. Scholastica more than tripled the UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team's total for shots on goal as the Blugolds lost 3-1 tonight at Hobbs Ice Center.

The first score of the night came in the second period on a Saint power-play goal at 3:01. Eau Claire answered back with a power-play strike of its own 9:52 into the middle period. Dave Coleman (Jr.-Whitby, ONT/Leo J. Austin) made the shot while Zack Tesar (So.-Waterloo, NE/Butte, MT) and Sean Clark (Sr.-Royal Oak, MI/Brother Rice) gave assists. However, that was all for Blugold points this evening. Another power-play goal for St. Scholastic at 16:35 into the period put the Saints ahead for good.

An even-handed score at the 8:28 mark in the third made for the final Saint score.

Steffan Braunlich (Sr.-Los Angeles, CA/Loyola) made 31 saves on 34 St. Scholastica shots. Eau Claire only managed 11 such shots on his counterpart, including one shot on goal in the first, with the lone goal making it through.

There were 21 penalties issued this evening. The Blugolds went one for six on their advantages while the opponents converted two out of nine times.

Eau Claire's record in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) now stands at 0-4-1, which places Eau Claire last in the standings. The team has an overall record of 0-8-3. They are the only NCHA team without a victory. St. Scholastica is 2-1-0 in the NCHA and 6-3-0 overall.

The Blugolds continue action tomorrow when they face another NCHA rival in UW-Superior. The contest begins at 7:00 at Hobbs Ice Center.
