Box Score DE PERE - The UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team lost its second straight game tonight, losing to St. Norbert College 61-47.
In a game in which the Blugolds never led, the Green Knights jumped out to a 9-0 lead to begin the game. The Blugolds first field goal came just over five minutes into the game. The margin between the two teams would stay the same for the most part of the first half, until the Green Knights closed out the half on an 8-0 run to make the halftime score 37-21.
The Blugolds shot just 34.8% in the first half, going 8-for-23 from the field. The Green Knights, on the other hand, shot 52% in the half, going 13-for-25.
The Blugolds shot better in the second half, but were unable to cut into the lead. The Green Knights went on to win 61-47. The Blugolds shot 44% in the second half, but still were under 40% for the game.
Leading the way for the Blugolds was Michelle Burns (So.-Eau Claire, WI/North) with 14 points. Burns also had five rebounds for the Blugolds. Rachel Becker (Sr.-Gilmanton, WI) added eight points. Rachel Becker was 4-for-4 from the free throw line.
The loss drops the Blugolds to 1-2 on the season. The Green Knights improve to 2-1. The win by St. Norbert also snaps a 13-game losing streak to the Blugolds, dating back to 1990.
Up next for the Blugolds is the UW-Eau Claire Thanksgiving Showcase Friday and Saturday in Zorn Arena. Along with the Blugolds, the four-team tournament will include Luther College, Gustavus Adolphus, and St. Scholastica. The Blugolds will play the second game Friday night against St. Scholastica with the tip-off scheduled for 8 p.m.
