DELAWARE, OH - The UW-Eau Claire women's cross country team placed 23rd out of 24 schools in the NCAA Division III National Championships at the MTSO & Dornoch Golf Club.
The team claimed 505 points on the day. The top team, Geneseo SUNY, won with 88 points. The runner-up was Williams College with 107. Washington University from Missouri took third at 132. UW-La Crosse placed fourth while gaining 167 points. The 169-point day from Colby College gave it fifth place. UW-Stevens Point and UW-Oshkosh also competed from the conference. Stevens Point placed 10th at 307 points. Oshkosh took 19th with 441.
Molly Warner (So.-Mosinee) took first for Eau Claire and 43rd overall out of 167 runners. She ran a 23:39 race. Rachel Anderson (Sr.-St. Paul, MN/Harding) ran the course in 24:29.0 for 101st place and second for the Blugolds. Bridget Bocher (So.-Watertown) was right on Anderson's tail as she finished three spots behind her at 104th while running 24:29.9. Kasey Stanek (Sr.-La Crosse/Central) finished 118th on a 24:39 time. Cassie Haak (Sr.-Shoreview, MN/Mounds View) and her 24:58 race placed 139th for the last Blugold points.
Korah Petrasko (Jr.-Appleton/East) finished 150th in 25:15 as Jane-Marie Ovanin (Sr.-Amherst) took 160th at 25:42.
La Crosse's Julia Rudd took first overall with a 21:59 race.
This was the first time Eau Claire had been at nationals since 1997-98 when it took second. The team finished the year with a 122-37 record. It is the highest total in the wins column since the 145 by the 1997-98 squad. It is the second most wins in school history.
