St. Scholastica Hands Soccer Its Second Loss

DULUTH, MN - The UW-Eau Claire soccer team lost for only the second this season today, losing to the College of St. Scholastica by a score of 2-0.

In the Blugolds third match in as many days, UWEC was unable to get any one of its 22 shots past the Saints' goalkeeper. The Blugolds out shot the Saints 22-7 in the match.

Jessica Millard (Fr.-Madison/La Follette) and Marcia Foltz (Sr.-Madison/Memorial) combined for nine shots, five of which on goal, but could not get one past the goalkeeper.

The Saints only had two shots in the first half, but one of the two put St. Scholastica ahead when Robin Johnson put it in the right corner at 31:49.

The Saints then sealed the deal in the final minute of the match when Jen Seip put it in from 25 yards out to give St. Scholastica a 2-0 victory.

The loss drops the Blugolds to 12-2-4 overall. Yesterday, the Blugolds clinched their first conference championship with a conference record of 6-0-2. The victory gives the Saints an overall record of 10-4-3. The Saints were the regular season champions of the UMAC conference with a record of 6-0.

Up next the Blugolds will travel to face Hamline University next Saturday (Oct. 29) for the team's final regular season match of the year. The action is set to begin at 2 p.m.
