Men's Hockey Chopped Down By The Foresters

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team fell to Northern Collegiate Hockey Association opponent Lake Forest 4-2 here tonight at the Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse.

Lake Forest scored first when Tyler Canal slipped a shot past Chris Nelson (Jr.-Madison/Memorial) just 24 seconds into the game. The Foresters scored the next two goals to go up 3-0 with less than four minutes remaining in the second period.

The Blugolds got on the board moments later when Sean Clark (Jr.-Royal Oak, MI/Brother Rice) used passes from Pete Eloranta (Sr.-River Falls) and Phil Cherneski (Sr.-Thompson, MAN/RDPC) to score his third goal of the year.

Eau Claire closed the gap to two 5:55 into the third period when Ben Manny (Sr.-Chippewa Falls/Chi-Hi) scored unassisted for his eighth goal of the year. Lake Forest scored the final goal of the game 16 seconds later for the final margin.

The Blugolds were outshot 41-25 by the Foresters with Eau Claire going 0 for 6 on power plays and Lake Forest going 1 for 5. Nelson made 37 saves in goal for the Blugolds.

Eau Claire drops to 1-4-2 in the NCHA and 8-7-3 overall while Lake Forest improves to 2-5-0 in the NCHA and 6-11-1 overall.

The Blugolds will be in action when they play St. Norbert tomorrow night. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
