Box Score

DULUTH, Minn. - The UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team tallied 45 shots on goal but a St. Scholastica goal in the final minutes of the game resulted in a 2-2 overtime tie for the Blugolds here tonight at Mars Lakeview Arena.

The Blugolds move to 8-5-3 on the season and 1-2-2 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play while the Saints go to 3-9-4 overall and 0-4-1 in the NCHA.

Eau Claire got the scoring started with less than eight minutes left to go in the first period, when Pete Eloranta (Sr.-River Falls) found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. Kyle Garner (So.-Sun Prairie) and Dave Coleman (So.-Whitby, ONT/Leo J. Austin) earned assists on the play.

The Saints tied the game late in the second period but the Blugolds regained the lead midway through the third. Defenseman Dan Lohr (So.-Madison/Middleton) took advantage of an Eau Claire power play and scored a go-ahead goal. Rob Ouimette (Sr.-Iron Bridge, ONT/Leamington District) and Sean Clark (Jr.-Royal Oak, MI/Brother Rice) each assisted on the goal by Lohr.

With time ticking down in regulation the Saints struck again, tying the game with just 2:37 remaining in the third period. The Blugolds dominated the overtime period, tallying six shots on goal to St. Scholastica's one but the game ended in a 2-2 gridlock.

Steffan Braunlich (Jr.-Playa del Rey, CA/Loyola) played all 65 minutes in goal for Eau Claire, stopping 34 of the 36 shots that came his way.

The Blugolds will be back in action tomorrow night when they head north to battle NCHA and Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foe UW-Superior. Face-off is set for 7:05 p.m.
