Blugold Soccer Takes Down La Crosse

LA CROSSE - Becky Sitter (Fr. -Waupaca) scored the game-winning goal and added an assist as the UW-Eau Claire soccer team scored a 2-1 victory over conference rival UW-La Crosse here today in La Crosse.

The Blugolds improve to 6-6-0 on the season and 2-2-0 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play while the Eagles fall to 8-3-1 overall and 2-2-0 in the WIAC. The loss snaps La Crosse's three match winning streak.

Eau Claire got on the board first when Sitter dished a pass to Marcia Foltz (Jr.-Madison/Memorial) who put it past Eagle goalie Stephanie Harbaugh for her team-leading sixth goal of the season. The score came at the 17:53 mark in the first half.

Sitter tallied the eventual game-winner in the 55th minute of the match, taking a pass from Kelly Peterson (Jr.-Hudson) and scoring for her fifth goal of the year. Kris Miller tallied a goal in the 62nd minute for the Eagles but the Blugold defense held on for the win.

Eau Claire won the shot battle, tallying 18 shots on goal to the Eagles' 15. The Blugolds have now out-shot their opponents 148-112 on the season. Anne Scharenbroich (So.-White Bear Lake, MN/South) played a great game in goal for the Blugolds, making nine saves on the afternoon.

Eau Claire will next be in action Tuesday when they host I-94 rival UW-Stout. The match is set to begin at 4:00 p.m. at the Bollinger Fields in Eau Claire.
