Women's Cross Country Finishes Sixth At WIAC Championships

RIVER FALLS - The UW-Eau Claire women's cross country team took sixth place out of nine teams with at total of 171 points here today in River Falls at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships.

Rachel Anderson (Jr.-St. Paul, MN/Harding) led the Blugold team with a time of 24:13.2, good for 30th place overall. The time is a season-best for Anderson in the 6K race.

Molly Warner (Fr.-Mosinee) was the second finisher for Eau Claire, claiming 31st place overall with a time of 24:16.4. Jane Ovanin (Jr.-Amherst) finished four places behind Warner with a time of 24:24.8.

Heather Lipinski (Sr.-Thorp) took fourth place on the Blugold team and 37th overall with a time of 24:39.9 while Christina Locke (So.-Racine Horlick) finished 38th with a time of 24:45.4

Cassie Haak (So.-Shoreview, MN/Mounds View) and Kasey Stanek (Jr.-La Crosse/Central) rounded out the Blugold scorers, claiming 40th and 45th place respectively. Haak finished in a time of 24:47.0 while Stanek posted a time of 25:00.2.

UW-Stevens Point won the event with a team total of 43 points while UW-Oshkosh finished in second just four points back. UW-La Crosse took third place with 66 points.

The Titans had the top two finishers in the meet, with Liz Woodworth taking first place overall out of a field of 102 runners. Woodworth finished in a time of 21:14.7 while teammate Kristy Giljohann finished second with a time of 22:09.3. Platteville's Jackie Mulrooney took third place with a time of 22:14.5.

The Blugolds will next be in action Saturday, November 13, when they head to Rock Island, Illinois for the NCAA Regional, beginning at noon.
