Men's Hockey Drops One To River Falls

RIVER FALLS - The UW-Eau Claire men's hockey fell behind 4-0 and couldn't recover in losing 6-1 to UW-River Falls here tonight at Hunt Arena.

The Falcons scored two goals in the first period and two more in the second period to gain the 4-0 advantage. The Blugolds got on the board in the second period on a Rob Ouimette (Sr.-Iron Bridge, ONT/Leamington District) power play goal to pull within three goals.

River Falls scored two more goals in the third period to give the game its final margin.

Steffan Braunlich (Jr.-Playa del Rey, CA/Loyola) played a majority of the minutes in goal stopping 24 shots with Chris Nelson (Jr.-Madison/Memorial) stopping all nine shots that came his way.

The Blugolds were outshot 39-19 by the Falcons. Eau Claire committed 19 penalties for 38 penalty minutes while River Falls committed 14 penalties for 36 minutes. The Falcons capitalized on the Blugold penalties scoring five of their six goals on power plays.

Eau Claire will play their first home game of the year when they host Bethel College Friday at Hobbs Ice Center. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:05 p.m.
