Soccer Drops Close Match To St. thomas

Box Score

EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team battled St. Thomas of Minnesota in a highly contested game but eventually fell to the Tommies 1-0 here today at the Bollinger Fields

The Blugolds fall to 2-2 on the season and already match last season's loss total. Eau Claire fell to defending champion Ohio Wesleyan in its first game of the season back on August 30. The Tommies improve their record to 1-2 on the season but with both losses coming against tough opponents UW-Stevens Point and University of Mary.

Blugold goalkeeper Megan Brady (Jr.-Dousman/Waukesha Catholic) played all 90 minutes in net for Eau Claire and saved five balls. The only goal of the game came on a shot that deflected off Brady and was put in the net by Maggie Curran to give St. Thomas the win. The goal came at the 21:13 mark of the first half.

After firing just one shot on goal in the first half, the Blugolds managed nine attempts in the second half, including many good scoring chances. The Tommies freshman goaltender Rachel Lindor played phenomenally in the second half, making several jumping and diving saves to hold the Blugolds scoreless.

Eau Claire will resume action next Saturday and begin Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play as they travel to Whitewater to battle the Warhawks. Last season the Blugolds topped Whitewater 3-1 in Eau Claire.
