Box Score EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team will look to win its third straight match as it will host the University of St. Thomas from Minnesota this Saturday at the Bollinger Fields at 2:00 p.m.
The Blugolds come into the match with a record of 2-1 on the season and are fresh of a 5-2 victory over St. Olaf. Eau Claire opened the season against defending national champion Ohio Wesleyan and fell to the top ranked team in Division III soccer 3-0. The Blugolds bounced back with a decisive victory over then nationally ranked Denison University of Ohio as they topped the Big Red 3-1. On Wednesday the Blugolds improved their record to 2-1 with the win over the Oles in Eau Claire's home opener.
St. Thomas comes into Saturday's game with a 0-2 record on the season with both losses coming by scores of 3-2 against tough teams. The Tommies suffered a double overtime loss against the University of Mary last Sunday and fell to No. 10 ranked UW-Stevens Point 3-2 in their season opener.
The Blugolds and Tommies have met once each season for the past six years, with Eau Claire marking a 2-3-1 record. The Blugolds topped the Tommies 3-2 in Eau Claire's season opener last season. In last year's contest Marcia Foltz (So.-Madison/Memorial), Kris Unterweger (Sr./Jr.-Nashotah/Arrowhead), and Kelly Kavanaugh (Sr.-Madison/West) all scored goals to lead the Blugolds to the victory.
The match is set to begin at 2:00 p.m. and is free for all UW-Eau Claire students. Saturday will also be Youth Day.
