Eau Claire, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team traveled to Plattsburgh, NY over the holiday break as they took part in the 2019 Great Northern Shootout presented by Primelink. In the first round, the Eau Claire Blugolds would face the host team, Plattsburgh University. After a fast start on the road, the Blugolds would rack up six goals on their way to a commanding victory.
It didn't take long for the Blugolds to find the game's first tally as Scott Munro (Sr. – Vancouver, BC/St. George's) would snap home a shot from the point on the powerplay. Munro would tally another two assists in the game bringing his career total to 27 as a Blugold. Joining Munro with a multi-point night was an Eau Claire native, Jake Bresser (Sr. – Eau Claire, WI/Memorial) who scored the other goal in the first period to extend the lead.
Andrew McGlynn (So. – St. Louis, MO/Christian Brothers College) would assist on Bresser first goal and later, would tally another assist and goal of this own to rack up a three-point night as well.
After a Zach Kennedy (Jr. – Eagle River, WI/Northland Pines) goal in the second period, the Blugolds struck again in the third with back-to-back goals from Jon Richards (Jr. – Callaway, MN/Detroit Lakes) shortly into the period to seal the deal for Eau Claire.
The Blugolds would see eight different players recording at least one point in game one of the Primelink tournament.
Goaltender Zach Dyment (Jr. – Abbotsford, BC/Yale Secondary) would stop 29 of the 30 shots he faced in his sixth win of the season.
The Blugolds will play in the championship game of the Primelink Tournament on Saturday, November 30th, when they take on Middlebury College at 6PM CST.
