Pitsch Wins Heavyweight Title as Wrestling Hosts Blugold Open
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire wrestling team competed well today at the UW-Eau Claire Open in the McPhee Physical Education Center.
Leading the way for the Blugolds was Joe Pitsch (Sr.-Oshkosh, Wis./North) as he won the heavyweight category. He won with a pin to start the day and then followed with an 8-0 major decision victory to advance to the championship match. In the final match, he won 6-5 against Carroll University's Nick Grady to take home the title.
Two Blugolds also reached second-place finishes.
At 149 pounds, Ryan Seidler (Jr.-Adams, Wis./Adams-Friendship) finished second after falling 13-6 in the championship match while Levi Polus (Sr.-Winona, Minn.) came up just short, 3-2, in the 165 pound championship match.
Up next, the Blugolds will host UW-La Crosse for a WIAC dual on Thursday, February 9. Wrestling will get underway at 7 p.m.
