EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) - With the present school year wrapping up, it is not too early to look ahead to the 2017-2018 school year. In doing so, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's basketball team is set to release their schedule for next season.
"We are thrilled to have a tough non-conference schedule once again next year," said head coach Tonja Englund. "Playing top teams from the Midwest Conference, the IIAC, and the MIAC as well as an extremely challenging holiday tournament at UT-Dallas will ready us again for the outstanding competition we face in the WIAC."
The goals for the team are to contend in the conference, return to the WIAC tournament once again next year, and ultimately reach the NCAA tournament. Next year's schedule features five opponents that competed in this past year's national tournament, those being UW-Superior, St. Norbert, UT-Dallas, UW-Whitewater, and UW-Oshkosh.
Leading the charge for the Blugolds against that challenging slate of opponents will be the returning Anna Graaskamp (Fr.-Eau Claire, WI/Memorial). She was the only freshman on the WIAC All-Conference team and Eau Claire's leading scorer and rebounder. Alongside Graaskamp are four returning starters and fourteen letter-winners.
Englund added, "It will also be great for our Blugold basketball fans that we are hosting two home doubleheaders next season with our men's team in Zorn arena."
The women's basketball team led the WIAC in home attendance this past season, averaging over 700 fans per contest, and hopes to see that great fan support again in the 2017-18 campaign.
