WHITEWATER, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's basketball team was defeated by the No. 21 ranked UW-Whitewater Warhawks by a score of 67-37 on Saturday.
It was a slow start for the Blugolds who were quickly down 4-0 before Anna Graaskamp (Fr. – Eau Claire, WI/Memorial) connected on two free throws. Eau Claire didn't hit a shot from the field and ended the quarter down 17-2.
Early in the second quarter, a Graaskamp layup off an assist from Alleah Voigt (Sr. – Neilsville, WI) brought the score to 17-4 in the first minute. Shortly after, Jenni LaCroix (Jr. – Verona, WI) came off the bench and hit a three with 6:11 to make the score 23-9 but the 21-ranked Warhawks controlled the rest of the half as they led Eau Claire 32-13 at the break. Graaskamp led the Blugolds in scoring at the half with eight points.
The Blugolds opened the third period with a three pointer from Maddie Dunathan (So. – Hortonville, WI) which made the score 32-16 but Whitewater would close out the quarter leading 48-20.
In the fourth quarter the Blugolds would continue to fight and played even with the Warhawks but the Whitewater lead was too much to overcome.
Graaskamp led the team with eight points and six rebounds. Arien Brennan (Sr. – Hayward, WI) added seven points, five rebounds and two assists, while LaCroix nine point and two rebounds and assists off the bench.
