Women's Basketball Wins Big Over Frostburg State, Keeps Winning Streak Alive

WESTERVILLE, Ohio (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team handily defeated Frostburg State (Md.) 72-43, on the second and final day of the Smokey Ballenger Classic at Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio.

The Blugolds came out strong in the first half, quickly climbing to a 42-21 lead at halftime.  They never turned back, outscoring Frostburg State 30-22 in the second half.

Eau Claire was led by Teenie Lichtfuss (Fr.-Oshkosh, Wis./Lourdes), who recorded 14 points for the game.  All of her points came in the first half of the game.

Also scoring in double figures for the Blugolds were Sarah Bingea (Sr.-Delano, Minn.), who had 12 points, and Leah Rempert (Sr.-Lake Geneva, Wis./Badger), who recorded 10 points off of the bench.

A key to Eau Claire's victory was its ability to control the boards.  The Blugolds out-rebounded Frostburg State 40-25.  Bingea and forward Courtney Lewis (So.-Prairie Du Chien, Wis.) led the Blugolds with seven rebounds each.

The win marks the third straight victory for the Blugolds.  They are now 7-5 overall while Frostburg drops to 4-8 on the year.

The Blugolds will look to extend their win streak when they play Capital (Ohio) on Monday.  The game will be played at the Capital Center in Ohio, at 2 p.m. Eastern.
