LAKE WISSOTA, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's cross country team finished with a perfect score of 15 at its own Lake Wissota Invitational at Lake Wissota State Park today.

Five Blugolds finished in the top seven to earn the perfect score. Two other runners that finished in the top seven competed unattached on the 8,000-meter course.

While the Blugolds had 15 points, Viterbo University came in second with 56 and UW-River Falls was third with 57. Gogebic Community College finished fourth with 120.

Joe Martschinke (So.-Waukesha, Wis./West) led the Blugolds as he took second place with a time of 27:04. Alex Cole (So.-Lakeville, Minn./North) came in four seconds later to take third.

In fourth place was Jeffrey Quednow (So.-Westboro, Wis./Rib Lake) with a time of 27:17 while Tyler Hart (So.-Sun Prairie, Wis.) finished fifth with a time of 27:27. William Schimmel III (Fr.-Princeton, Minn./Mayo) took seventh with a time of 27:48.

The Blugolds will now turn their attention to the WIAC Championship, hosted by UW-Stout. The meet will take place at Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax, where the Blugolds host their annual Blugold Open, next Saturday.
