Men's Tennis Dominates Weekend in Illinois
MOLINE, Ill. (Blugolds.com) - This weekend, the UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team had one of its best weekends of the season to date. They traveled to Moline, Illinois to face both St. Ambrose University (Iowa) and Loras College (Iowa) and won both matches 9-0.
UW-Eau Claire started the weekend on Friday against St. Ambrose. The Blugolds made easy work of the Fighting Bees, winning all of their matches.
In the No. 1 singles match, Blugold Ryan Vande Linde (Jr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) easily won by a score of 6-0, 6-4. The most dominant performances came from Joe Meier (Jr.-Hutchinson, Minn.) at No. 2 singles and Brayden Parman (Jr.-Beaver Dam, Wis.) at No. 4. Meier won 6-0, 6-1 while Parman won 6-1, 6-0
In doubles competition, Eau Claire easily won all of its matches. Florent Marco (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) and Kyle Hoffmann (Fr.-Franklin, Wis.) posted the best score for the Blugolds, winning the No. 3 doubles match 8-1.
On Saturday, the Blugolds stayed in Moline to face their next opponent, Loras College. It was a similar story for the Blugolds, another 9-0 victory.
Vande Linde dominated in the No. 1 singles competition, winning the match 6-0, 6-1, while Meier didn't lose any games as he won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2. In the six singles matches, the Blugolds only lost a total of seven games.
For Eau Claire, it was the same result for its doubles matches. The Blugolds only lost four games, and were led by Parman and David Stingley (Sr.-St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park) in the No. 3 doubles match, who won 8-1, and Vande Linde and Meier, who won also won 8-1 at No. 1.
After the weekend, the Blugolds improved their record to 6-4 on the season. Loras College is now 0-6 and St. Ambrose is 2-7.
Eau Claire will play its next games in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, where they will be on a Spring Break trip. The Blugolds will play five matches during the trip, which begins March 17.
