MOORHEAD, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – Playing in its first game of the new year, the UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team picked up a 3-0 win over Concordia-Moorhead at Moorhead Sports Center this afternoon.
While the Blugolds led the shot total 12-4 in the opening period, neither team found the back of the net.
But in the second period at 6:17, Ross Andersen (Fr.-River Falls, Wis.) scored the Blugolds' first goal, which eventually proved to be the game winner, with assists from Tyler Romasco (Sr.-Perry, Ohio) and Eric Mclintock (So.-Traverse City, Mich./Central). In the period, the Blugolds again outshot the Cobbers 12-4.
In the final period, the Blugolds scored two goals. Andrew McCabe (Jr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) opened the period with one at 1:09. Kurt Weston (Jr.-Roseau, Minn.) and Andersen assisted on the goal.
The final goal came with just 45 seconds remaining as Jared Williams (So.-West Chicago, Ill./Bartlett) scored unassisted on an empty net.
The Blugolds finished outshooting the Cobbers 32-17. Brandon Stephenson (Jr.-Saline, Mich.) played the entire game in-goal and stopped all 17 shots.
Eau Claire improves to 9-6 on the season while Concordia drops to 7-4-3.
Tomorrow the Blugolds will head to Buffalo, Minn. to take on St. John's University (Minn.). The puck is set to drop at 7 p.m.
